In the spring of 2005, the Council Venturing Committee was on the lookout for a community service project. The project, it was decided, should be able to be conducted by local units, and have a local impact. It should be easy, fun and leave all of those involved knowing what a difference they made. The best possible scenario would be a project that could be carried out throughout the entire existing council, and if a consolidation was to take place, could also be carried out by the new larger council. The agreed upon project is a Toys for Tots campaign.

"Announced on the 16 July 2008 at the 38th World Scout Conference in Korea, the Association des Scouts du Canada will host the 14th World Scout Moot in August 2013. The activities will take place in Quebec and Ontario, Canada.
The main venue will be a scout camp, situated to the north-west of Montreal and surrounded by the beautiful Laurentian Mountains.
There will be a focus on the following four values: self-accomplishment through introspection and interaction with others; responsible and long-lasting commitment, international solidarity and the social contribution of Scouting.
The theme of the event is "Land of Paths! Land of Commitments! Land of Success!" "Land of Paths" aspires to be a crossroads of ideas, cultures and beliefs of the various participating countries. The projects will give these young adults an opportunity to explore their convictions, beliefs and hopes. The sharing of successes will help them to encourage and spread goodwill, and reconfirm their commitment to creating a better world to live in."
"The Kenya Scout Association presented a progress report on the 13th World Scout Moot which is scheduled to take place at the end of July 2010.
The proposed venue for the event is Rowallan Camp, situated in Nairobi, with most of the facilities scheduled for refurbishment or renovation before the event. Several sites in different cities have also been identified to welcome expedition centres: Nyeri, Embu, Machakos and Mombasa.
The event will be composed of 2 main parts: one week community service(environment, health, education, heritage) with active travelling and inter-cultural experiences, African adventure in wilderness, organised and managed by the participants themselves with the support of the service team; and 4 days base camp activities to share their respective projects, enrich their experiences, learn more about the issues of today's world, meet various leaders (business, religious, NGO, etc.), build friendships and discover opportunities. Participants will be involved and be the real actors of the event."

If you are looking for a low cost / high value outing, check out Roscoe's Red Cedar Outfitters in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Roscoe's has kayaks and canoes for paddling down the Red Cedar River. A leisurely paddle to Downsville takes about 3 hours; along the way, you'll spot bald eagles and many fish. Roscoe's will meet you at the end of the trip, and transport you back to Menomonie. Or, if you'd like, they will meet you at Downsville with bikes, and you can pedal your way back on the Red Cedar bike trail which runs parallel to the river. It's a great way to spend the day.
